As a School of Dance, The Sisterhood of The Soul's Na Hula O Ka Wahine 'Ui Healing with Hula Program supports the "One Billion Rising" cause.
We support this cause for its stance against violence against women. We support this cause because many who dance with us are also like us - Survivors.
AIDS is not a laughing matter, and more than that, no matter what anyone still wrongly believes, it is not just a "gay disease."
More and more these days, it is a different person who has been stricken with this disease, and it is due to their disbelief that they can end up with this disease even though they are straight. The rise in AIDS cases in the community of our global senior citizenship is alarming, and no longer do I march in honor of my very dearly departed and missed "brother Lady," De'Vaughn.
